June 4 – Update #1

Hi everyone! My name is Yang Mee-Moua Yang, and I am CHAT’s Community Arts Project artist this year. My project is focused on origami as a decorative on clothing. At the end of the project, I hope to exhibit the works at different events in the Twin Cities.  I need as much help from all of you as possible to fold thousands of cranes, stars, ninja stars, and flowers. This project runs from May to the end of July. Participation is available to anyone who is interested.

From May 1st to May 23, I had 58 people participate from Hmong American Partnerships and Hmong Language Arts at Concordia University. We are doing great so far but still have a long way to go. Here is a table showing an estimation of the progress:

As you can see, I need more participants to help me fold to complete four outfits for the project. I need as much help from all of you as possible. Thank you for those who had helped and participated.

Here are the upcoming workshops:

  • June 13—Upward Bound Vision Quest from 10:55-11:40. Location is TBD.
  • June 15—ASANDC Peace celebration from 2-6. Location, 774 University Ave St. Paul, MN 55104
  • This is not all, more will be added.

Reminder, volunteers are welcome to help. I am also looking for donations such as: a long prom dress-light color prefer, Hmong woman dress-light color, and plain prefer-I only need the main parts, Hmong man suit-light color and plain prefer-hat, shirt, pants, could be either green or white Hmong. I am also looking for 2 models for the Hmong man and woman clothing. All other donations are also welcome. Please contact me at mouax087@morris.umn.edu if you are interested or have questions. Thank you all for you support!
