Grant Writing 101: How to Apply for State Funding

Posted: Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Multi-disciplinary artist Katie Hae Leo will be offering a free grant writing workshop to artists of color through CHAT on Saturday, March 31 from 2:00-4:00 pm. Registration will be required and forthcoming.

The purpose of the workshop is two-fold: 1) to introduce Southeast Minnesota artists of color to grant opportunities available to them via the Minnesota State Arts Board; and 2) to teach basic grant writing skills. This two-hour workshop will cover topics like How to Write a Narrative, How to Create a Budget, and Career Basics (including resumes, bios, and keeping a personal grant schedule). We will also review the grant schedule for the Minnesota State Arts Board and walk through one of the grants as an example, covering topics like How to Use the Guidelines, How to Plan Your Time, and How to Put Together a Work Sample.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop if they have one, but it’s not required. For more information on the Minnesota State Arts Board, see www.arts.state.mn.us.
