FRESH TRADITIONS IV FASHION SHOW – CALLING HMONG FASHION DESIGNERS!
Fresh Traditions Fashion Show is an annual event that features Hmong American fashion designers and highlights Asian American models. Each designer has complete creative control over the designs seen at this event, but CHAT gives them one design challenge. The challenge requires each designer to create a full outfit with all five fabrics used in traditional Hmong clothing (hot pink chiffon and neon green chiffon with gold print, deep blue satin, black satin and black velvet) and is in the same style as the rest of their line. All challenge pieces are highlighted together at the event and in print materials.
The history of Hmong art is rooted and sewn into the fabrics of traditional Hmong clothing where the unique combination of vibrant colors and textures makes the Hmong identifiable. Fresh Traditions is a culturally inspired fashion event that exhibits the creativity, originality and quality of work by Hmong fashion designers.
The Fresh Traditions Challenge: each designer is required to design one full outfil using a combination of the same 5 traditional Hmong fabrics – black velvet, black satin, florescent green chiffon, florescent pink chiffon and royal blue satin.
